Hello and welcome to December! We finally have some movement with two of the five planets that have been retrograde turning direct, Saturn and Mercury. If you have Gemini, Virgo, Capricorn or Aquarius prominent in your chart things have been at a standstill. As a Gemini ascendent I really felt the release of energy once Mercury turned direct. And as a Capricorn moon, good lord, Saturn has been retrograding since July 13! I finally feel like I can breathe again!
When you are analyzing your own chart, you want to check your Sun, Moon and rising sign for current transits effecting you personally. You also want to check what houses planets are transiting through for you. If they are transiting or aspecting your Sun, Moon or rising sign it gets very personal for you. If they are transiting the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house they also will impact you more.
Whatever planet is your chart ruler, which means it rules your first house, if it is transiting any malefic house (6,8, or 12) or planet (Saturn, Mars, dark Moon, Rahu or Ketu) it is going to have the potential to cause physical harm. The first house is your physical body. The Sun is also the physical body. When we are looking for possible health concerns, we want to see multiple influences to know we need to be mindful and take precautions.
Anyone with Gemini or Virgo as an ascendant, Sun or Moon has been having a hard time and may be suffering physically, emotionally or from authority figures. Transiting Mercury was conjunct Mars and opposing Saturn. A double malefic influence. Then Mercury transited into the malefic 6th house. During its retrograde period it went back to Libra, but it is getting ready to re-enter Scorpio and the 6th house. This can bring conflict, health issues, enemies or psychological problems.
Personally, I have been on the couch for a month with a lower back/sacral issue that required prednisone and now physical therapy. This is the area of the physical body the 6th house and Scorpio rule. I am not looking forward to Mercury in Scorpio physically BUT psycho-spiritually it has been tremendous. I have basically been hibernating and meditating for hours and hours. I have made great spiritual progress. This is the benefit of Scorpio, and the 6th or 8th house that can bring illness when it is embraced. Deep psychological and spiritual transformation and mastery is possible.
The Maha dasha, great cycle, you are in has a larger influence than transiting planets. Whichever houses the planet that rules the main cycle is in and its influences will tell us what areas of your life are currently experiencing energy, and which are not. One can have karmas in a chart that never turn on by dasha for good or ill.
This is the information we work with regularly in Astrological Counseling and Coaching sessions. You learn to work with your chart to track and predict coming cycles, areas of growth or restriction. You learn when to take action and when to wait things out.
The astrology chart is a picture of what we call in yoga your samskaras. This is the built-up energy patterns you have been working with over lifetimes. Or conversely it is the energy patterns you have come here to master in this lifetime.
If you are interested in joining me in this wonderful journey of learning to think and live astrologically consider regular sessions. I meet with folks weekly, bi-weekly and monthly for astrological coaching/counseling. Others have their bi-annual astrology chart updated to understand their trends as you move through the year. Where will you experience grace, where will you be building psycho-spiritual muscle? How will your relationships be, and will money be flowing? Should you save or spend? What about educational opportunities?
If you are looking for a deep dive and a great way to learn astrology as you live it, look no further. Book a session via zoom or in person if you are local.

The full Moon this week in Taurus in Rohini Nakshatra will bring illumination. That is the nature of a full moon. The Moon represents the mind, the manas, or the essence of your internal experience psycho-emotionally. Generally, people born on full moons are said to have bright minds, meaning they are happy. But what if the full moon is in your 9th house? Well, this is even better. Just like dushtana or negative houses there are positive houses. The 9th house is the best house in the chart, followed by the 5th and the 1st. If this full moon falls in one of these houses for you in the Moon's sign of exaltation and in its favorite lunar mansion, you should be having a stellar week! You will feel spiritually connected, happy and optimistic! You also love to travel to soak in life experience and may be going on a trip!
Each person's chart is unique and there are many factors to take into consideration for predicting or for understanding one's innermost self and the experiences that come to us as karmas or fate.
The New Moon on December 20th will be in between the Sun and Mars in Sagittarius causing emotional fire! You may feel enthusiastic, angry, filled with energy or want to jump out of your skin. You may want to jump in your car and go somewhere for the weekend! A dark moon can bring a dark mind, and it is in between two malefic planets, take note, how does this feel for you? Begin to track these celestial events through journaling and having your chart handy to really experience how the cosmic events effect you. There is nothing like direct experience to really understand the value and validity of astrology.
The winter solstice is on Sunday December 21st at 10:03am. This is a dark and quiet time. Combined with the New Moon cycle, it is advisable to lay low for the 3 days before and after the solstice. It is a time to hibernate, pray, meditate and listen. The forces of nature are very potent this time of year, and you have the opportunity to gain deep insight if you give yourself time and space to listen, journal and reflect.
Namaste my friends, may this new year be bright and blessed for all. Laura
